The Coronavirus National Testing Programme has expanded capacity to test symptomatic frontline workers who are having to self-isolate due to coronavirus-like (COVID-19) symptoms or because a member of their household has symptoms. This means all Rapid doctors who fall into this category are now eligible for testing.
All key workers across England are now eligible to get tested. This includes our agency doctors who may be showing symptoms of COVID-19 or any individual in their household who may be symptomatic of the virus.
Check if you have coronavirus symptoms
For key workers residing in England, you simply need to complete the online GOV.UK self-referral form. To manage demand, there may be times when the application form is temporarily closed, if this is the case, please contact your consultant at Rapid Doctorswho may be able to find an alternative way to secure testing.
Once you’ve completed the registration form, you will be offered to book an appointment at the closest drive-through testing site to your area, or be sent a home testing kit. Kit numbers will initially be limited, so everyone is encouraged to attend a test site if possible. You are only able to attend a test site if you or a member of your household has a car.
Check if you can apply for a coronavirus test
The COVID-19 testing procedure involves a swab test of the nose and the throat. We have included a short video which explains in detail how the current drive-through testing procedure works.
After sending your swab sample to be tested and analysed, the UK government aims for test results from drive-through sites to be sent via a text message within 48 hours. Home testing kits results take up to 72 hours after collection.
