Revalidation
How does revalidation work?
1. Identify your designated body

Firstly, you will need to identify the ‘designated body’ that will help you with revalidation. Typically, this is the organisation through which you do the most of your work, e.g. your hospital, GP practice or locum agency. If the majority of your work throughout the year is booked through Rapid Doctors, we are potentially your designated body. If you think this is the case, contact us at bookings@rapidimprovement.co.uk

For more information on how to identify your designated body, click here.
2. Arrange your annual appraisals
A ‘Responsible Officer’ from your designated body will arrange annual appraisals which are based on the core guidance for doctors, set out in the Good Medical Practice (GMP). Appraisals focus on four main areas:

  • Knowledge, skills and performance
  • Safety and quality
  • Communication, partnership and teamwork
  • Maintaining trust
Essentially, the appraisal process is there to help you monitor your performance, evidence that you are up-to-date and fit to continue to practice, enable you to reflect on the supporting information you have collected (see below) and identify areas for practice development.

Rapid Improvement has a Bank of Quality Approved Appraisers at a charge of £350.00 per Appraisal. Please contact our team at bookings@rapidimprovement.co.uk for more info.
3. Collect Supporting Information

Once in every five year revalidation cycle you will need to collect Multi Source Feedback (MSF) from your patients and colleagues. We do have templates that our connected doctors can use, please contact bookings@rapidimprovement.co.uk for more info.

4. Engage in Continuing Professional Development & Quality Improvement Activity
Based on the feedback from your appraisals, as well as other information drawn from your designated body, every 5 years your responsible officer will make a recommendation to the GMC that your license should be revalidated.

There are certain requirements that are needed by the GMC for the revalidation process, one of the contributing factors is your quality improvement activity. Please visit this page from the GMC for further detail on this.

Finally, the GMC will carry out its own series of checks, after which your license will be revalidated and you will be able to continue to practice.

Anyone that works with Rapid Doctors has access to the CPD loyalty scheme, and the points you earn from this can be used to cover some of the cost of your revalidation.
If Rapid Doctors is your designated body or for more information on revalidation, please email us at bookings@rapidimprovement.co.uk
